Art on Tuesday: Looking Smoky

Painting by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi 月岡 芳年 (1839-1892), one of the greatest masters of ukiyo-e art. This picture is part of the series Thirty-two Aspects of Daily Life. The title is “Looking Smoky- a Housewife” printed in 1888. She is fanning a fire.

  1. Thanks. I believe he also did a series of prints about the moon and another one of ghosts, goblins, ghouls, etc. The latter series is quite intense!
