Art on Tuesday: Maiko in Spring

spring

This ukiyo-e shows a “Maiko in Spring”. The picture was made by 北野 恒富 Kitano Tsunetomi in 1931. He is a Japanese artist known for bijin-ga. What I like about the painting is the side face of the woman. The deep blue of the kimono and contrasting red collar. Her hair is done in a typical Maiko-style with flower ornaments.
