Art on Tuesday: Revue

Revue by Kobayakawa Kiyoshi (1986-1948), painted in 1932. Kobayakawa is known for his paintings of modern Japanese women. This girl is dancing in a red kimono, which is slightly transparent, so that you can see her arms and the left leg. Her haircut is typical for the 1930’s. Her dance is charming, though shaky. She is barefoot. Her face expression is serious, maybe she is watching something or someone outside of the picture. Maybe she is just thinking about her moves.
