Art on Tuesday: Fireflies

Eishôsai Chôki 栄松斎 長喜 painted this lovely scene of a Japanese woman with her child watching fireflies around 1793. It is dark and the fireflies are sparkling. The child is having fun catching the insects. The woman is delighted by the marvellous sight. They are standing in front of a pond with water reed and blooming iris. What a joy!
