Takahashi Shotei 松亭高橋 (1871-1945) made this woodblock print of a peasant girl in a winter scene. Although the tree and the ground is covered with snow, you can see the green colour of the pine tree. What I like about the picture is the outfit of the girl in different blue-shades and her headdress. It seems not too cold, because she wears only sleeves of three-fourth length. On her back she carries an empty basket, in her hand a traditional Japanese umbrella. She is relaxed and holds one hand down to protect her body against a light wind.

This looks like a scene from The Ballad of Narayama movie. Beautiful!

I do not know that, but thank you for your comment! What kind of movie is that?

It’s a 1958 film directed by Keisuke Kinoshita. The reason why I remember it so was because it was completely different from all the movies I’ve watched. 🙂
