Odori Hitori Geiko (Dance Instruction Manual)

The Smithsonian’s latest edition of Snapshot highlights the so-called Odori Hitori Geiko (Dance Instruction Manual) by Katsushika Hokusai, one of the most famous Japanese artists (1760-1849). It is on view in the Sackler Gallery of Art’s new exhibition “Hand-Held: Gerhard Pulverer’s Japanese Illustrated Books.”
To fully bring the illustrations in Odori Hitori Geiko to life a gif of the dance was produced. With courtesy to Becky Haberacker of the Smithsonian Seriously Amazing I am allowed to show this artwork. For more information please follow the link.
